Tainted Curtains

Someone walks inside me

Swallowing each breath as I inhale

Thrusting frantic excuses while

Squeezing my heart firmly

Telling me what a fool I am

For embracing pity and compassion

Indulging in fabrications

In vanishing, I leave only myself

behind

Surrounding darkness

Faded footsteps clattering

Spirit lingering in the shadows

A ghost has crossed my path

Haunting suspicions

Promises soiled with doubt

The curtains drawn

I walk without myself
