The Last Day

The clock shows fifteen till three:

underclassmen scurry out the door

running to their vehicles

trying to be the first out.

Seniors walk slowly,

taking a last glance down the hallway

capturing in their mind the final walk

that will lead them to their destination.

Time has flown for the seniors

who will no longer wander the narrow halls

aimlessly searching

for the familiar faces of friends.

Unaware,

like an athlete who has struggled,

playing hard

until the last fifteen minutes of the game

decides the victor.

Their fifteen minutes have passed.

Another class will feel the pressure of time.

The last senior walks out the doors

never to look back,

Hearing the door close

with a faint final click of the latch.

Time has run out.

Our fifteen minutes are over.
