My First Kiss

Thoughts began rushing through my mind as I felt the blood slowly drain from the

veins in my face back into the veins in the rest of my body. I began to acknowledge the room again,

the high pitched squeals from the yelling, the music blaring from the speakers, and immature

"ooohh" from the guys standing above us. In my head I was thinking, "I can't believe I kissed

someone for the first time." Then I began to feel a bright smile spread across my face as I realized I

was not embarrassed. A million questions began to run through as I looked at his face. "Does he

think I did awful? Was the kiss what he had expected? Was it what I had expected?" Deep down

inside my heart I knew the kiss was what I had expected; it was special.

This great excitement started when I gave him his birthday card. Reaching over to

hand the card to him, my hand was shaking along with the rest of my body. I knew the writing on

the card by heart, and I knew the card read what I had wanted to say. My heart began to skip

beats as he opened the card. To me, time seemed to be in slow motion. However, I knew that the

motion was only in my mind. Doubts started rushing through my mind as I wondered if I had done

the right thing by giving him the card. I then remembered all the other girls that David had kissed

and those kisses didn't mean anything to him. I couldn't figure out why he acted different toward

me, and I couldn't understand why he wouldn't kiss me. I then answered the question I had asked

in my mind with a confident "Yes, I had done the right thing." As I looked over at David through

the corner of my eyes, I read the card along with him. On the outside was two pelicans with huge

beaks, and the card read, " I'd love to kiss you, but I'm not at all sure it's possible." The room

seemed to get hotter as I felt my muscles twitch and jerk. As David was thoughtfully staring at the

card, I felt as if my heart was going to pound out of my chest. He then opened the card to the

inside and read "It's your birthday, so let's find out." With David stopping at that point, I looked at

him to see his reaction. His eyes widened and brightened as a slight grin shone across his face

when he turned to face me.

"Do you mean this?" he asked.

"Yes," I sincerely replied.

As he turned back to take one last glance at the card, he then laid the card down

and turned toward me. We looked deep into each others' eyes as he calmly put his arm around

me. I tensely took a deep breath and felt my heart begin to flutter faster and faster. The room got

silent when he pulled me near him. We both closed our eyes and then our lips softly touched. Mine

were still trembling, but that didn't phase either of us. I felt as if the whole room and the people in it

had disappeared. I was thinking how the greatest moment of my life was now. We slowly backed

away from each other and opened our eyes. He smiled at me and I could feel the heat fade away.

The noises then began roaring as loud as before. I felt a cold chill run down my

spine from the cold air blowing on the sweat that was rolling down my back. My shaking body was

calming little by little, and I then realized that my first kiss was more than I expected. Not only did

the kiss feel special, but now I know I couldn't ask for a better first kiss that the one I had with

David.
