The 1997 Butler County Blue Regiment Marching Band season was a success with the help of band directors Bryant L. McClellan and Larry J. Moore. The theme for this years show was "Ole Jorge" which was a Spanish show consisting of the songs; Topaz, Olvidar, Children of Sanchez, and Topaz Reprise.

The 1A Blue Regiment Marching Band competed in 5 regular season competitions, a regional competition, a state competition, and a national-regional competition at Atlanta, Georgia. The Blue Regiment brought home 2 first place trophies, 2 second place trophies and 1 third place trophy from the 5 regular season competitions. The Blue Regiments field commander and color guard were undeafted this year. Also, the Blue Regiment brought home 1 percussion award, 2 superiors, and also won the 1st annual Sarah Hanson spirit award in honor of the memory of Sarah Hanson from Muhlenburg County. During the regional competition, the band placed 5th out of 20 1A bands and went on to the state competition in Lexington, Kentucky, and placed 9th out of the 16 1A bands. On November 1st the Blue Regiment competed at the Georgia dome for the national-regional competition and brought home a division ll rating of excellency.

This years band season will be one of those cherished by the Butler County High School. Hopefully in years to come the Blue Regiment Marching Band will carry on its years of excellency.
